The Vienna Stock Exchange (VSE), established in 1771, is one of the oldest and most international stock exchanges in the world. It was originally a state institution created to provide a
market for government-issued bonds. The VSE has over 800 companies listed, with about 70 being local Austrian companies. Its total market capitalization in 2022 was approximately 140 billion euros, with a monthly average trading volume of 8 billion euros.
